Despite the fact that a lot of us were hitting hour 36 without sleep, today was absolutely incredible. It's so crazy how we woke up in Glenview and by the time we go to bed we're in the gorgeous city of Vienna, half way across the world. Once we landed, we took a bus through the city, getting a quick glimpse of all the beautiful buildings that make up Vienna. We got to the hostel and had some much needed rest time. After that though, we had our afternoon of adventures downtown, in the heart of the city. We walked there so we got to see the shops, the locals and get a closer look at the culture - something we'd only seen or read about in books until today. On our way, we stopped to see the amazing naturhistorisches museum. The building was breathtaking, both for its size and architecture. We all took some pictures and a quick rest before moving on.

Our first stop downtown was Stephansdom: a gorgeous, old, Gothic cathedral that we got the chance to explore. Some of us opted to go up, climbing 343 steps of a narrow, rock spiral staircase ending in a breathtaking view of Vienna. Others decided to go down, into the catacombs that are full of the bones of the people who died of the black plague. Either way we got a whole new perspective on the city. Next, we were given some time to wander downtown, searching for fancy Vienna coffee shops and shopping. Then we all reconvened for our schnitzel dinner where more people than not were nodding off at the table. Regardless, it was a delicious meal that ended an incredible first day in Vienna.
