Today was quite the adventure, feeling more like a week rather than one day! We started the morning with a quick bus ride to the heart of the city where we toured the Hofburg (Hapsburg family's palaces). The first exhibit we saw was called Silberkammer (silver collection). It showcased the intricate tableware. Immaculately kept dishes were around every corner.
From there, we stopped by the Spanish Riding Show, watching the horses being trained. Round and round, the houses galloped with such grace.
Also at Horburg, we toured the Sisi Museum and Imperial Apartments. In every room, we were in awe of Empress Sisi's elegant dresses, high ceilings, and spectacular decor.
By then, we all had worked up quite the appetite. We wandered around the city, on a mission to find lunch and the famous Sachertorte (Austrian chocolate cake). The streets were lined with little cafes and shops all so tempting.
With full stomachs and heavy feet, the boat tour in Schwedenplatz came as quite the relief. The Danube river was colorfully lined with graffiti art. We all enjoyed sipping our Almdudler (Austrian soda) and admiring the sites.
With fresh legs, we walked to the Prater (amusement park). Along the way, we passed by the buildings with Hundertwasser's work. We stopped only for a moment to take some pictures and see the shops. At the Prater, we enjoyed the small rides and tasty carnival foods.
Today came to a closing with the much needed Ubahn (underground train) ride back to the hostel. We all will sleep well tonight with tired legs and excitement for tomorrow's activities!
